The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service has proposed a standardised fee system for national park campgrounds that will increase prices in some popular areas and result in 90% of NSW campsites incurring a fee to stay.
The proposal would see campgrounds priced according to a tiered system, which would see some prices increase — notably during peak seasons.
In the NSW Snowy Mountains, the Thredbo Diggings campground would see its $6 booking fee increase to a peak season charge of $36 a night.
Whilst some agree that the tiers make it clear what you're paying for and what you're getting, many are concerned that the new proposed pricing would mean that lots of people/families will not be able to access the sites due to the increase in cost. A camping trip is sometimes the only affordable escape for those on a tight budget, and in a cost of living crisis will make holidays in NSW National Parks inaccessible.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services have opened up a survey to hear what you think which will help to guide their final decision making on the proposal.
